A picnic is not always my first choice when it comes to weekend lunch plans, I enjoy reading restaurant menus, admiring the ambiance and most of all I love good service. Maybe that’s the snob in me, maybe it’s the way I was brought up. We never did picnics in the park when I was younger, we went to restaurants and posh pubs as my mum would call them. My brother and I would never order from the children’s menu and we were always able to polish off three courses.
Paper plates, pork pies and plastic cutlery would usually have me running for the hills and this time it will too, but to the Malibu Hills, to Malibu Wines to be precise. The picnic will be at a winery where we can sit back relax and taste the local wines and that doesn’t sound too bad to me.
As much as I am looking forward to trying new wines, listening to live music and enjoying good food, part of the fun for me will be packing our picnic. I love to entertain and in England I enjoyed nothing more than hosting a dinner party for friends and family but after swapping a reasonably sized house for a one bedroom apartment we are not really set up for having friends over, so in a way I am putting my dinner party passion into the picnic I am preparing.
My husband and I will be going to Grand Central Market after work tomorrow to pick up some local produce. We will grab a few glasses of wine and some food while exploring the many stalls offering everything from seafood to sweets. I will check back in with all the great thing things we find, in the meantime here are some photos from our last visit.
